The CONTROL Study - The world's first scientifically controlled study of the use of bifocal soft contact lenses for the prevention of myopia in children was completed by Dr. Aller in the Spring of 2006.  Full disclosure of the results is awaiting approval by the sponsor, but some results have already been published in abstract form.  What was proven is that bifocal contact lenses prescribed according to the methods in Dr. Aller's patent can reduce the gradual worsening of myopia in children, by 90%.

The results of this study confirm the research that Dr. Aller has been conducting in his practice for the last 15 years, i.e. that bifocal soft contact lenses can drastically reduce the gradual worsening of myopia that is typical in children and also somewhat common in adults.  Dr. Aller's studies to date only involve adults and children with tendencies to slightly cross their eyes while reading, but he has begun to test whether bifocal contacts might work for other categories of myopia. While Dr. Aller is collaborating with an international team of researchers to develop unique, optimized contact lens designs for myopia control, there is no need to wait for those lenses to be introduced.  If you or your child has myopia (can't see clearly far away), simply call and make an appointment to see if you might benefit from this therapy.
